I enjoy sitting back pondering scripture and allowing the Holy Spirit to bring the revelation. I was reading Mark 6:53-56, and the Lord showed me some things that I haven’t been able to get out of my mind.
On the first trip to Gennesaret, Jesus cast a legion of demons out of a mad man in the graveyard. The people of the town told Jesus to leave. They were not ready for the message Jesus had to offer at that time. One thing cool about that was the man who was set free went into the towns and was in fact an evangelist for Jesus. People would have known who he was, and he would have had the opportunity to share his testimony. This one man was preparing the cities and towns for Jesus’ second visit to Gennesaret.
The interesting part when you read the verses mentioned above was that on Jesus’ second trip, the people ran through the region and began to carry in beds those who were sick to where they heard Jesus was. Now some interesting stuff happens here. Verse 56 says And where he entered, into villages, or cities, or country, they laid the sick in the streets, and besought him that they might touch if it were but the border of his garment: and as many as touched him were made whole.
The news of the testimony of the woman with the issue of blood, who humbled herself and touched the hem of Jesus’ garment and was made whole, traveled across the Sea of Galilee to an area which was basically comprised of heathens.
There are some key points that were highlighted to me. The sick said, “If we can just touch the border or hem of His garment,” and all that touched the hem were healed. They may have heard about all of the miracles Jesus had done when He laid His hands upon people. Yet they only wanted to follow the woman’s testimony and touch the hem of His garment.
I believe we can learn something from this. They were acting in humility. They had to humble themselves and reach out to be healed. They had to yearn to be healed. It took their faith through humility to reach out, touch, and believe, and they received their healing. They went to the source of healing instead of waiting for the source to come to them.
I believe this is important when it comes to healing in our own lives. We have to come to the source of healing — and that being Jesus or His glory — and reach out to only touch Him, and expect to receive the healing.
I have seen too many times where we allow our pride to rise up and say we are fine, even though we are not. We can allow our pride to rise up and say living in pain is the way it is supposed to be. I have even heard some say I am going to a meeting, and I expect the preacher to call me out for my healing, and if they don’t I won’t believe. PRIDE is a nasty hindrance that will destroy any chance of healing. Again we have to humble ourselves and seek the source (Jesus) for our healing. This isn’t just for physical healing, but also for spiritual, emotional, and financial healing.
Jesus said in Matthew 11:28 Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.
He didn’t say He would come to us. He says come to me, and when we come to Him we are humbling ourselves in order to receive what Jesus has to offer — freedom, healing, strength, breakthrough, or whatever else we are needing.
James 4:10 says Humble yourselves in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you.
Therefore, if you are needing a breakthrough or healing in your life, and don’t know how to get it, try humility. It is a step we often forget. The Word speaks a lot about healing and humility.
One more scripture can be found in 2 Chronicles 7:14 If My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
When we humble ourselves, pray, and seek the source, we will see our healing. It is a concept that is a hard one sometimes, and that is putting down our pride and humbling ourselves. I believe it is a key to receiving, and also a key to doing the work and will of God.
In order to pray for someone, we have to reach out to them and humble ourselves to speak and allow God to do the work.
God Bless,
Eric
